Mandurah’s beloved dolphin Luca dies

MANDURAH’s beloved dolphin Luca, who was rescued from fishing line after a four-week operation earlier this month, has died.

The Estuary Guardians Facebook page revealed the news on Friday afternoon.

“We are sad to announce that one of our Mandurah dolphins has died after becoming entangled multiple times,” the post read.

“Luca’s health was severely compromised, and unfortunately he died this morning while undergoing medical treatment for the severe fin wounds caused by repeated fishing line entanglements.”

The Estuary Guardians Mandurah said they were “completely heartbroken”.

“Please know the rescue today went smoothly and successfully but right at the end Luca slipped away,” they said.

“The vets did everything they could.

“It is now known through x-rays Luca had underlying health issues.”
