MANDURAH and Peel Tourist Organisation chief executive Karen Priest has resigned and will finish up on December 21.

MAPTO chair Bernie Worthington said the organisation was sad to see her go but Ms Priest felt it was the right time to take a break and pursue new challenges in the New Year.

“As an organisation and from a tourism and business point of view, Karen’s leadership, drive and ambition over the past three years has been outstanding and she will be sorely missed,’’ he said.

“As chairman, she made my job so much easier with her input, frankness and work ethic.”

Mr Worthington said recently released domestic visitation figures underlined the success Ms Priest and her team had made in recent times.

“In 2017-18 the number of days trips to Mandurah was more than 2.8 million, a 500,000 increased on the previous year,’’ he said.

“Domestic overnight stays also increased by 20 per cent.”

He said recruitment for a replacement chief executive would start in due course.
