A FAMILY friend of two Golden Bay men missing in Mexico said they held deep fears for them, but they are still waiting for details to be confirmed.

Gareth Taylor met with media in Rockingham yesterday afternoon (December 1).

He said Dean Lucas and Adam Coleman were travelling from Canada to Mexico by road.

“The last confirmed sighting of them was in Mexico, disembarking the ferry from Cabo to Topolabampa on November 21,” he said.

“They were due to arrive in Guadalajara by November 21, but did not arrive.”

The Department of Foreign Affairs is helping the families and issued a statement on Sunday.

They said the family is aware the van, in which they were travelling, had been located by Mexican authorities and that a “tragic event” had occurred.

Mr Taylor said the sheer number of people assisting by spreading and sharing information and offering support was staggering and very much appreciated.

A GoFundMe page set up to help bring Mr Lucas and Mr Coleman home has raised more than $43,000 in just a few days.

Their family plan to travel to Mexico to help police and Australian consular officials find the missing men.

Mr Taylor said they hoped to bring closure to the families and friends of the two very much loved people.

They have asked the media not to speculate further on Dean and Adam’s whereabouts, after the van they were travelling in was found burnt-out.

Dean’s girlfriend Josie Cox, who is based in Canada, posted on Facebook over the weekend, thanking everyone for their kind messages and efforts to find the men. She posted that she had learned Mr Lucas was going to propose to her.

Mr Coleman’s mother, Zenady Cattermole wrote on Facebook, “He has gone to surf bigger waves, we’ll miss you son.”

Kaye Maytum set up the GoFundMe page for the family of the men.

She wrote, “We are currently raising funds to help support both families in getting over to Mexico and bringing Dean and Adam back home to WA safely.”
