The YSRC was constructed in the early 1980s and serves as a community centre and meeting space for a wide variety of groups and activities, including the South Yunderup Residents and Ratepayers Association, aerobic classes, playgroups, bowls, darts, basketball and tennis.

The club also has a function room.

“Given the significant growth of South Yunderup in recent years, additional space was required to cater for this growing demand,” Mr Unsworth said.

In April, 2012, a proposal was submitted to the council by the YSRC to consider extensions to the facility. Initial plans for a major extension were revised after unsuccessful grant applications.

Further planning was held and a proposal for a smaller extension was submitted and approved. Funding was acquired through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund, YSRC and the Shire of Murray’s 2014/15 budget.

The project went to tender in September, 2014, and was awarded to CPD Group Pty Ltd.

Funding for this project was provided by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund, the Yunderup Sport and Recreation Club and the Shire of Murray.
