THE Yunderup Sport and Recreation Club (YSRC) redevelopment was officially opened by Murray-Wellington MLA Murray Cowper and Murray Shire President Wally Barrett last Friday.
Canning candidate Andrew Hastie, Regional Development Australia Peel chairwoman Paddi Creevey and Peel Development Commission Chairman Paul Fitzpatrick were also among the 130 guests in attendance.
“The refurbished establishment offers the community improved sporting facilities and provides increased opportunities for participation in recreational activities,” chief executive officer Dean Unsworth said.
Extensions have added 150sqm of open activity space, meeting/training rooms, storage space and updated kitchen and amenities.
The YSRC was constructed in the early 1980s and serves as a community centre and meeting space for a wide variety of groups and activities, including the South Yunderup Residents and Ratepayers Association, aerobic classes, playgroups, bowls, darts, basketball and tennis.
The club also has a function room.
“Given the significant growth of South Yunderup in recent years, additional space was required to cater for this growing demand,” Mr Unsworth said.
In April, 2012, a proposal was submitted to the council by the YSRC to consider extensions to the facility. Initial plans for a major extension were revised after unsuccessful grant applications.
Further planning was held and a proposal for a smaller extension was submitted and approved. Funding was acquired through the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund, YSRC and the Shire of Murray’s 2014/15 budget.
The project went to tender in September, 2014, and was awarded to CPD Group Pty Ltd.
Funding for this project was provided by the State Government’s Royalties for Regions Country Local Government Fund, the Yunderup Sport and Recreation Club and the Shire of Murray.
