Nominate Mandurah’s outstanding citizens now for Active Citizenship Awards

Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

THE search is on for individuals, groups and organisations that make a positive, active contribution to the Mandurah community. The Active Citizenship Awards, presented on Australia Day, foster, recognise and celebrate significant contributions to community life and active citizenship in all local government areas of WA. Mayor Marina Vergone encouraged the community to nominate their local hero as part of the 2017 Active Citizenship Awards. “There are many people and organisations in Mandurah that make significant contributions towards enhancing our community life,” she said. “Too often these hidden gems make their contribution without being recognised and it is now time to nominate and celebrate their important role in the community.” The award categories are Citizen of the Year, Youth Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year and Active Citizenship (group or event). The winners will be announced at a special ceremony on the eastern foreshore on Australia Day. They will be presented with a medallion and certificate in recognition of their community pride and spirit, as well as a commemorative bronze plaque on the Honour Walk in Mandjar Square. Nominations close on October 31. Nominate online at Mandurah or for further information contact 9550 3840 or visit eventsteam.
