Packing party for Operation Christmas Child

Prestige PublishingMandurah Coastal Times

BETHANIE Peel Aged Care Home and Bethanie Peel Housing residents got into the Christmas spirit early this year.

They held packing parties as a part of Operation Christmas Child, an initiative run by Samaritan’s Purse since 1993.

Residents at the facilities packed shoeboxes that will be sent to children in developing countries across South East Asia and the South Pacific.

Bethanie Peel Aged Care Home packed 50 boxes for two to five-year-old boys and Bethanie Peel Housing packed 200 shoeboxes including 100 boxes for 10 to 14-year-old girls as well as 100 boxes for 10 to 14 year old boys.

The boxes include items that the children could wear or play with, as well as useful items for school, comfort and personal hygiene purposes.

Bethanie Mission manager David van Leen said the initiative was a great way for residents to be involved with the global community.

“With so many dedicated people behind this cause, Operation Christmas Child is a way to get all residents involved, including those with physical limitations,” he said.

“The residents and staff at Bethanie thoroughly enjoy taking part in such an important initiative where they are provided the opportunity to pass on items we sometimes take for granted, knowing they will make a huge impact to children in need.”
