Mr Rennie is feeling like a rock star after he won the Australian Geographic ANZANG Nature Photographer of the Year competition for his amazing shot of an osprey and spoonbill above the estuary in Coodanup.

The experienced wildlife photographer has overcome many physical and mental challenges to produce his high calibre work.

The judges said Mr Rennie’s winning photo Near Miss captured a highly dramatic and very rare moment.

They admired the surreal quality of the image, both in the encounter that had been photographed, and the strong contrast between the birds and moody sky.

Mr Rennie said he shot his bird photos with the view of ‘art in nature.’ He took the winning shot after three years of following osprey parents and their chicks.

‘I am humbled and honoured,’ Mr Rennie said of his win.

‘I have considered ANZANG the pinnacle of what I do.’

The competition is run by the South Australian Museum and there were 104 finalists.

Mr Rennie wins $10,000 and a holiday for two to New Zealand.
