THE Peel Volunteer Resource Centre is a great way for those interested in volunteering to get started.

Jen Thomson is the volunteer referral officer one day a week, interviewing and helping prospective volunteers find their area of interest.

There are more than 16 areas to choose from, including seniors, children, ethnic, sport, recreation, emergency services and education.

It is the first volunteer position she has ever held and she loves it.

After being made redundant and off work for a while, Jen visited the centre and, like many potential volunteers, had no idea what she wanted to do.

“I enjoy administrative work, it keeps the brain alive,” she said.

“The bulk of my clients are mature adults and I’m really busy on my day here.

“It feels like I am really helping out and its nice to meet new people.

“Peel Volunteer Centre and the clients always make you feel really appreciated.”

The Centre is hosting a Steps Into Volunteering information session at Lakelands Library and Community Centre on Wednesday, April 4 from 1-2pm.
