Peel Community Kitchen appeals for donations

David FriedlosMandurah Coastal Times

PEEL Community Kitchen is appealing for donations and sponsorship to keep the essential service running.

Volunteers co-ordinator Elizabeth Lipscombe said demand for the service had more than doubled in the past two years.

What started out as a soup van seven years ago has grown into providing food parcels five days a week from the Sutton Street Hall.

The kitchen’s team of volunteers serve about 100 people each day.

“In addition to supplying food and beverages, the kitchen offers a safe, accepting and supportive environment for members of the community who are struggling with day-to-day living and are in need of support and friendship,” Ms Lipscombe said.

“Isolation and lack of social support are known contributing factors to mental illnesses such as depression, anxiety and substance abuse.”

The kitchen runs without government funding and is reliant on the generosity of the community. Call 0420 293 538 or visit www.peelcommunitykitchen.com.au.
