THE Peel region took out the 2017 WA’s Celebrity Signature Dish crown on WA Day.

For the four celebrities who took part in the Buy West Eat Best WA’s Celebrity Signature Dish competition, it was a long battle of identifying their produce, creating their recipes and practising their kitchen skills.

Each of the final four dishes featured ingredients synonymous to each representative region.

Mark Gibson’s dish featured slow braised Harvey Beef shin with roasted sweet potato and pickled vegetables, and was considered by the judges to be the dish of the day.

Head judge Dan Masters of Rockpool Perth said for people who were not chefs, the standard of cooking was very good.

“The fish wings from the Kimberley region were stunning, but the beef from Peel was the winner,” he said.

Mr Gibson said he had discovered so much about the Peel region during the campaign.

“I always generally thought of the Peel in terms of coast,” he said.

“But the more I found out (that’s one of the reasons we selected beef as the hero ingredient), the further inland you go in the Peel the more there is.”
