Mr Templeman asked Dr Hames in Parliament if any money was allocated in the State Budget for expanding the carpark.
‘There is no specific allocation at all although there is some money assigned to the hospital, which could be used, but its not very much,” Mr Templeman said.
‘I have had a steady stream of complaints about the major parking problem, and when I visit constituents and friends who are in hospital, the carpark is always overflowing, forcing people to park on verges, median islands and in the bush.’
He has also raised the issue with campus chief executive Margaret Sturdy.
‘I am pleased Ramsay Health has already tried to alleviate the current problem but it is the State Government’s responsibility to provide the badly needed additional parking,’ he said.
Mr Templeman said the problem would only get worse and action was needed now.
He said there were reports that many people parked all day at the hospital and caught the bus or walked to the train station.
