Mr Templeman said he was delighted with the result, particularly with an increased primary vote of 53 per cent and despite being outspent by his opposition.

He said he considered it a privilege to represent the community in which he lived and would vigorously pursue the issue of more police for Mandurah, health services and the protection of the Peel waterways as his priorities.

Dr Hames expressed his gratitude to the Dawesville community which had put its faith in him for the next four years.

He said he would start work on the governance body for the Peel-Harvey Catchment as soon as possible because it was an important local issue.
