Peel Zonta Club members take part in Silent March against domestic violence

Jill BurgessMandurah Coastal Times

PEEL Zonta Club members, wearing their Zonta Says No To Violence Against Women vests, joined with other community groups, including Pat Thomas House and Alambee Counselling and the public for the sixth Silent March in the Peel to raise awareness and eradicate all forms of domestic and family violence.

About 200 people attended the rally which, following addresses by guest speakers, marched in silence from Mewburn Gardens, via the eastern foreshore to Mandurah Performing Arts Centre.

In WA, domestic homicide accounts for one quarter of all murders a year, with between 18 and 24 women perishing every year at the hands of a family member, mostly their partners.
