TWO migrant women studying English at South-West TAFE have won Peel Zonta Club scholarships.

The scholarships were presented to Widjayanti Sledzinski and Yadanar Tun by Zonta president Lorraine Webb and member Wendy Kirkby.

The Migrant Women Project is the most recent of the many projects and events run by the club.

With partnership funding from the City of Mandurah and by networking with migrant agencies, the club is developing ways of helping migrant women in Mandurah to settle into the community.

Zonta has awarded scholarships to students studying English through Cheryl Cullen at South Metropolitan TAFE and so far, three students have received $300 scholarships, with a further three selected this semester.

Zonta has also organised Meet and Greet afternoon teas on the first Tuesday of the month at Greenfields Family Centre.

Other Zonta projects include breast cancer cushions, birthing kits and education scholarships, as well as fundraising movie nights, golf days, gardens parties, the International Women’s Day breakfast and the Missing Persons Memorial Service.
