Pinjarra SHS student takes gold at WorldSkills National Championships

SEVENTEEN year old Pinjarra trainee Brandi Burnett took gold at the WorldSkills National Championships in Sydney on Tuesday.

More than 400 competitors from across Australia competed for the title of National Champion in 50 trades and skills categories.

Brandi, who is head girl at Pinjarra Senior High School and employed by Pinjarra Bakery, competed in the Vocational Education and Training in Schools (VETiS) Food and Beverage competition.

VETiS is any nationally recognised vocational education and training that counts as a credit towards a senior secondary certificate.

Brandi earned her place at the National Championships after a strong performance at the 2017 WorldSkills Australian Regional Competitions.

More than 100 women competed in a wide range of skills, from heavy mechanics to electrical installation.
