Police claim a taxi driver was three times over the limit in Mandurah last night

TRAFFIC Enforcement Group officers have charged a 30-year-old male taxi driver with drink driving following a traffic stop in Mandurah last night.

Police were patrolling Pinjarra Road at about 10.30pm when, near the Sutton Street intersection, a taxi pulled out in front of them.

Police stopped the car and spoke to the driver.  He failed a preliminary breath test and was taken to Mandurah Police Station where he failed a second, evidentiary breath test recording a reading of more than three times the legal limit.

The driver, who was two hours into his shift, was issued with an immediate disqualification notice and will be summoned to appear in court at a later date.

At the time he was stopped the driver was not carrying any passengers.
