Police pursuit in Mandurah

A CAR being chased by police allegedly hit two other cars during a pursuit through the suburbs of Mandurah this morning.

Police said they tried to stop the car in Meadow Springs, just before 10.30am on September 8, but the driver took off.

A pursuit ensued throughout Greenfields, Silver Sands, Meadow Springs, Nambeelup and Mandurah.

The car was eventually abandoned near the Mandurah Forum Shopping Centre, where the male driver and two female passengers ran through the shopping centre.

All three were located and arrested a short time later.

The driver of the vehicle, a 22-year-old man from Medina has been charged with being the driver of a vehicle that failed to stop, reckless driving, stealing a motor vehicle, stealing a motor vehicle and driving recklessly and having no authority to drive.

He was refused bail and is due to appear in the Mandurah Magistrates Court on September 9.

A 16-year-old girl from Thornlie and a 23-year-old woman from Coodanup are assisting police with their inquiries.

A police spokesman said the Holden Colorado was allegedly stolen from Alcoa Kwinana Beach two weeks ago.

The police airwing was called down to Mandurah to search for the offenders just after 11.30am.

A police media spokeswoman said they received multiple calls from drivers saying their cars had been sideswiped during the pursuit.

There were two minor crashes on Murdoch Drive in Greenfields during the chase, but no one was injured.

There was a heavy police presence at the shopping centre and surrounding suburbs following the chase.
