A POSSUM caused a fire and a power outage across Dawesville last night.

A Department of Fire and Emergency Services spokeswoman said a resident called 000 at 10.53pm after seeing a large flash, which they thought was lightning.

The flash set off a fire near Old Coast Road which burnt out a 50msq area of bush.

Four DFES crews attended and the fire was out by 11.40pm.

Western Power were called to the scene with the power out across the suburb.

An injured possum was found and it was determined the power outage was caused by the possum.
