Pride in Peel was a sell-out

THE Pride in Peel was a sell-out this year.

Organiser Stephen Carter said he was disappointed with a negative media report about a speaker at the event calling Canning MRH Andrew Hastie a homophobe.

“Jumping on a negative so quickly took the spotlight away from everything the event was about,” Mr Carter said.

“Filled with love and light – I have been overwhelmed with messages and feedback from the night and I can’t wait to get started on planning for next year.”

More than 200 people attended the Yes Party at Sunbreakers on Saturday night.

The event featured performances from drag queens Ruby Jewelz, Fay Rocious and Feminem. Rivertown Cabaret did a Moulin Rouge performance. There was also an appearance by Mrs Brown’s Aussie Twin. DJ Squinty and Tim James provided the dance music and the event was hosted by Nikki Parkinson.

Mr Carter said next year’s event would be even bigger, with crowds expected to spill out into the carpark.
