Reaching out to help

Staff ReporterMandurah Coastal Times

Mark had an idea some months ago about creating a day to help those less fortunate yet making it a fun event for the community.

The Reach Out Fun Day is the brainchild of Mark, with Michelle more than happily jumping on board with organisation for the event.

‘Since we started this we have been overwhelmed by how much community support there has been for the event,’ Michelle said.

‘Everything has been donated so we will have prizes for the event.’

The Reach Out Fun Day will be held at Hall Park in Mandurah on Sunday, May 4.

Mark said he was using his love of DJing for the event and through that had been able to organise local acts who were giving their time to perform on the day.

‘So many people in the community have got behind us, individuals and local businesses,’ he said

‘Everything from gifts and samples through to food have been donated. The event is turning out exactly as I hoped ” a community-focused event.’

The event is aimed at not only raising money but raising awareness of the growing problems of homelessness and social isolation that are affecting growing numbers of Mandurah people.

All money raised will be donated to the Reach Out Drop In Centre on Gibson Street in Mandurah.

Centre co-ordinator Nikki Wise said she was surprised at the couple’s efforts to organise the event.

‘It’s absolutely amazing that they want to do this; their support is invaluable to our centre,’ she said.
