Residents evacuated during bushfire

A BUSHFIRE Watch and Act warning remains in Nambeelup after residents were evacuated overnight.

Some Nambeelup residents waited at the Mandurah Greyhounds after they were told to evacuate their homes.

Fire crews were called to a vehicle fire on Lakes Road, near Hopeland Road, just after 8pm.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services then issued an emergency warning and advice after an out of control bushfire burned dangerously close to properties in Nambeelup.

The fire quickly spread to nearby dry bushland as winds fueled the fire in a north westerly direction, towards Stake Hill.

About 80 career and volunteer firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.
