Riverside favourite in running for teacher award

She will be vying for the title of WA Aboriginal and Islander Education Officer of the Year.

Supporting students from kindergarten to Year 6, Ms Otway encourages Aboriginal students in upper primary to be role models for their younger peers.

Relationships with families have never been stronger – thanks to Ms Otway’s commitment to students.

She runs innovative programs to keep students excited about learning and improving their social skills, and holds regular morning teas to welcome Aboriginal parents to the school.

Ms Otway is highly regarded by staff, students and parents, and works closely with community health services to organise school visits and check-ups for Aboriginal students.

Award winners will be announced at the WA Education Awards on November 28.
