Shark warning issued for Falcon Bay beach

A WARNING has been issued for Falcon Bay beach after a surfer reported an interaction with a shark this morning.

The surfer was not injured, but he claims his board was struck by what is believed to be a 2-m long unknown species of shark, and paddled to shore.

Department of Fisheries’ staff members could not comment on the size or species of shark involved.

The incident occurred 30m offshore, 200m north of Falcon Bay beach, near Rowena Street.

Fisheries will monitor and report any sightings over the next few days.

Other surfers are asked to pay attention to possible beach closures, which will be advised by the City of Mandurah.

They are asked to take additional caution in Falcon Bay and pay attention to the SharkSmart website or Surf Life Saving WA’s Twitter feed.

All shark sighting information reported to Water Police is provided to response agencies and to the public on the SharkSmart website and Surf Life Saving WA Twitter feed.
