The Secret Harbour girl, whose father is a WA Police officer responsible for the remote Aboriginal community in Kiwirrkurra, learned of the children’s plight after talking with her dad about the sporting activities he’d helped to organise in the area.

The Year 7 started a project to get unwanted sports shoes donated by fellow students to be sent up to Kiwirrkurra with the assistance of the Education Department and the PCYC.

Peel Crime Prevention and Diversity Unit officer-in-charge Sgt Paul Trimble, who accepted the donation, said the shoes will be presented to the school and other surrounding communities by their local police.

‘This is an excellent example of how one student with idea and a caring spirit can make a difference to many,’ he said.
