The elderly woman, who did not want her name published, said Ms Belton was a hero.

‘I pay the highest tribute to her quick thinking,’ she said.

‘When we realised my handbag was missing, Chelsea told me to stay where I was and she followed a woman (who was with others).

‘She confronted the woman in another store and demanded the return of my things.

‘I got my keys and bag back, but my money, camera and visa card is gone.’

Unfortunately, the thieves used PayPass to buy items within minutes.

‘Chelsea was so good and so calm,’ the woman said. ‘She walked me down to a coffee shop to make sure I was okay.

‘I am very grateful.’
