SILVER Sands step mum Kiri Barron is keen to promote the relationship between parents and step children.

She is taking part in a 12-week Self Expression Leadership Program that includes the creation of a community event and has chosen one that is close to her heart.

Stepping Up is a Family Fun Day at the Child and Parents Centre in Kooljack Street, Dudley Park on Saturday, December 1 from 9.30am to 11.30am.

There will be crafts, face painting, a bouncy castle and morning tea.

Kiri has created the event to acknowledge step parents and their ability to love their spouse and stepchildren.

She has also created a Facebook group Stepping Up as a support network for step parents.

“I was such a cranky mum to my seven and eight-year-old step children before I did the course,’’ she said.
