Laeticia’s uncle spoke on behalf of her family today.

Steve Evans said they are “terribly heartbroken and saddened by this tragic accident”.

“We take comfort in the fact Laeticia died doing something that she loved,” he said.

“The ocean was her and her family’s passion, surf was something she treasured doing with her dad and sisters.”

He thanked the police, SES, paramedics and bystanders.

Laeticia was recovered from the water and treated on the beach by St John Ambulance crew and Esperance Marine Rescue.

She was taken to Esperance Hospital in a critical condition before she passed away.
