Skating at 52: Steve Rock still popping after all these years

PINJARRA amateur skateboarder Steve Rock might be 52, but he can still rock ‘n’ roll and grind with the best of them.

“I get a deep satisfaction from what I’ve achieved,” Mr Rock said of his skateboarding.

“It’s a challenge and gives me a buzz just like surfing.”

Mr Rock has been skateboarding since he was eight-years-old.

“When I turned 48, I got a bit more limited because I was more cautious,” he said.

Mr Rock is a member of WA Bowlscum skateboard group, which has a few hundred members in their 30s and 40s.

“There are about 10 of us over 50s that get together,” he said.

Mr Rock often skates at the Mandurah and Falcon skate parks.

He said while most of the skaters were young, “there are always a couple of us old boys kicking around”.
