SOUTH Yunderup resident Raquisha Kearing enjoyed one of the biggest moments of her professional career yesterday when she modelled for Mandurah Forum’s David Jones store opening.

The 19-year-old has been modelling since 12 but went professional about a year ago.

“The opening has been one of my biggest gigs since I modelled in the Telstra Perth Fashion festival with Samantha Harris last year,” she said.

Miss Kearing said she was courted by modelling agencies after her Perth Fashion Festival gig but wants to stay freelance.

“I will be heading to Melbourne in the next few months to model with Red Opium and Ferrari and Mercedes Benz and I’ll be travelling to London in July for modelling to,” she said.

Models Samantha Harris and Naomi Campbell are among Miss Kearing’s fashion industry favourites.

“I’m a massive fan of Naomi Campbell – she has a good walk,” she said.

Miss Kearing said one of her biggest goals was to promote more diversity in the fashion industry.

“There are not many indigenous models in the industry yet there are so many girls who I know that are gorgeous but just don’t have the confidence,” she said.

“Building confidence and boosting their self esteem is something I want to help young indigenous models do.

“There’s only one indigenous international model, Samantha Harris, so I think there’s a very big underrepresentation of indigenous models.”
