ISLA Munro is a fashion force to be reckoned with who has launched her namesake loungewear label in the heart of Mandurah.

The South Yunderup resident launched her online clothing store Isla Munro, which ships worldwide, in April this year.

“I’ve had a really good response, mainly selling online but I’ve also sold some of my designs at pop-up shops and market stores as well,” Munro said.

The 22-year-old said her loungewear is designed to be worn comfortably around the house, confidently to brunch or conveniently to run errands.

“There can be a struggle marketing clothing that’s one dimensional and just for one occasion,” she said.

“My designs are all about wearing loungewear in an everyday setting.”

Munro recently graduated with a bachelor’s degree in fashion design from Curtin University.

She was one of 100 university students chosen for a Department of Trade and Foreign Affairs scholarship three years ago.

“I completed a year of studying fashion design at a university in Hong Kong with the scholarship,” she said.

She then spent four months interning and working at a high fashion label in Jakarta, Indonesia.

“I also visited Shanghai for six months and interned for a famous Australian fashion label trying to get themselves in the Chinese fashion market,” she said.

“After that I moved to Paris and was interning at Furrier at a high fashion fur label, but the experience wasn’t part of the scholarship.”

On Wednesday Munro will work with 14 local Mandurah businesses on a photo shoot showcasing her latest range.

“This shoot will be focused on how to style pieces in an everyday format,” she said.

“Two local models, a hair and makeup company, videographer, photographer, Mataya Eatery, a balloon company, a florist, and a jeans company are only some of the diverse local companies I’ll work with.”

Munro said she would love to see her label go wholesale in Mandurah or Perth based boutiques.

“I’m also bringing out a bridal loungewear line in late September this year.”
