Stage 2 of Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre to open soon

ONE of Mandurah’s biggest community infrastructure projects, the Mandurah Aquatic and Recreation Centre redevelopment, will be open to the public later this month.

Stage 2 of the redevelopment will open with a special, free community open day.

It will include a range of come and try activities, exhibitions, prizes and giveaways.

Mayor Marina Vergone said the centre was one of the biggest community infrastructure projects in Mandurah and would open ahead of the anticipated completion date of mid-2017.

“This completes the final stage of the long-awaited redevelopment to transform the centre into a modern, state-of-the-art recreational facility that meets the needs of our growing community,’’ she said.

“We are so proud of what has been achieved and thank the community for their patience and support throughout the project.”

Stage 2 of the $42million project included two new multi-purpose sports courts including events entry, foyer, administration, office, kiosk and first aid facilities, new gymnasium and group fitness facilities, new main entry, foyer, reception, cafe, retail and meeting facilities, new crèche facilities, new renovated toilet and change room facilities, renovated existing squash courts, new/renovated building facades and new administration facilities.

The centre has had more than 1,127,000 visitors since Stage 1 aquatic facilities opened in September 2015.

The official VIP opening is on Saturday, May 13 to coincide with Mandurah Magic’s local SBL Derby against Rockingham Flames.
