Sweet success for marmalade with ‘appeel’

Now he has an award to prove it.

The Waroona chef won gold at the World's Original Marmalade Competition in London for his gastronomical orange marmalade with black pepper and cognac.

"It goes great with steak," he said.

Mr Thompson has been making marmalade for about 17 to 18 years and was almost in tears when told he had taken out the coveted title.

"I feel like I�m on the up and up," he said.

"I placed in six categories out of eight. I won gold and five bronze awards."

There were 2000 entries from all over the world.

Mr Thompson often judges the jams and sauces at the Perth Royal Show.

He works at Gilberts Fresh Market Mandurah on Tuesdays and Fridays.
