Teenager in surgery following shark bite at Dawesville south of Mandurah

A TEENAGER was bitten by a shark last night at Dawesville south of Mandurah.

Eli Zawadski (18) was released from Peel Health Campus last night and admitted to the plastic surgery unit at Fiona Stanley Hospital.

It is understood the teenager has a tooth lodged in his foot and will undergo plastic surgery on his foot later this morning.

Surf Life Saving WA said a member of the public spotted a shark (of unknown species) at 4.10pm.

They reported the shark bite incident soon after.

The beach remains closed this morning.

The Department of Fisheries is investigating the incident.

Surf Life Saving WA said surfers should take additional caution in the Pyramid Beach area.

People should check the SharkSmart website to keep up with the latest detection and sighting information.

Shark sightings should be reported to Water Police on 9442 8600.
