Australian expert Jo Howard will discuss issues faced by the families of violent teenagers and how they can support them.
Ms Howard is a social worker and family therapist with more than 30 years of experience in the fields of domestic violence, youth, drug, alcohol and mental health.
Her work focus has included direct service, clinical supervision, consultation, program design and implemen- tation, evaluation and research, public policy and management.
She has been working with families experiencing adolescent violence in the home for almost 20 years and has been highly influential in raising awareness in Australia of this developing facet of family violence.
Family support officer and author of the Peel Report on Youth Violence Tanya Langford said experts in the field state there must be collaborative service and community efforts to overcome youth violence.
“It is precisely the direction and focus being created here in the Peel Region,” she said.
Mandurah Mayor Marina Vergone said it was great WA’s first forum dealing with youth violence in the home would be held in Mandurah and an important step in tackling it.
