TWO Mandurah families have been left devastated following two separate house fires this week.

The first fire started on Tuesday night when a candle sparked a blaze at a home on Oakdale Close in Halls Head.

Firefighters were called to the property about 11.30pm and worked for an hour before the blaze was under control.

The fire caused about $300,000 in damage to the home, which is less than 100m away from Glencoe Primary School.

It is believed a male occupant at the home escaped the flames without serious injuries.

Just hours later, an elderly Greenfields woman watched on as flames destroyed her home.

Dianne Pisani was out at the time but returned to her home on Lydia Place on Wednesday to find flames reaching out of the roof.

It is not the first time the Pisani family have been struck by disaster with her son Michael revealing they had been hit by a devastating house fire before.

“About 15 to 20 years ago we had the same thing happen in Queensland — our house burnt down and that’s why we moved to WA,” he said.

“Now the same thing’s happened again.”

Firefighters managed to save a few rooms, but authorities say it is no longer liveable.

The cause of that blaze is still being investigated but was deemed non-suspicious.

Department of Fire and Emergency Services recommend all houses to be equipped with smoke detectors and that families should have an escape plan in case of fire.
