WORK will soon start on much-needed upgrades to the dangerous Pinjarra Road-Coolibah Avenue-Dower Street intersection.

Mandurah MLA David Templeman said he had been raising concerns about the safety of the intersection for years and he was delighted it would now be made safe.

The intersection will become a double diamond configuration that will allow opposing right turns to operate simultaneously and include crossing signals for pedestrians.

Works have begun to relocate substantial public utility services and signal upgrades are expected to follow soon.

Mr Templeman said the intersection had been a safety concern for nearby residents and many drivers seeking access to Mandurah Forum and surrounding businesses for years.

“The lack of dedicated turning signals has caused congestion and dangerous conditions for vehicles and buses turning onto Pinjarra Roads,’’ he said.

‘The current intersection is very unsafe for pedestrians and its great they will now be able to cross safely.

“I’m delighted the City of Mandurah has acted to improve the intersection particularly with the completion of the Mandurah Forum development.”
