ARTIST Willemina Foeken is exhibiting oils, watercolours, pastels and relief prints of bush scenes, kangaroo paws and banksias in an exhibition titled Dwellingup Revisited in March.
Foeken stayed in Dwellingup while a student teacher at Pinjarra High School and has recently returned to work on local landscapes.
She is an experienced artist and art teacher, having exhibited in WA, NSW, the Netherlands and New York, and has taught at all levels from primary school to university and still teaches students in her Southern River studio.
Her approach is to immerse herself in the atmosphere of a place and to look, explore and analyse what is in front of her until she becomes part of the environment and the essence of the subject starts to emerge.
“I am always looking and searching but the answers I find are never final, they are very elusive,’’ she said.
“That’s one of the challenging things about art that makes the pursuit of it eternally fascinating.”
