HALLS Head resident Colin Bartley is “stoked” after winning the Canon Lights Awards Contest for August.

Mr Bartley entered his photo Paddlers’ Cold Misty Morning, which he took during the Avon Descent.

He took out the Open Category with the brief ‘mood’. The brief was to challenge photographer’s creativity to interpret the emotional reaction to the environment they were in and capture the moment.

Judge Mike Langford said Mr Bartley’s image was strong and original.

“It is full of atmosphere and graphics,” he said.

“The single strong back light cutting through the mist is just perfect – especially when rendered with the cool colour balance.

“The shapes of the canoes look like stranded whales or dead tuna and make the scene somewhat surreal.

“The people in the background all huddled together add to the feeling of cold and frosty.”
