Also cap charges

Janice TeoMandurah Coastal Times

THE Premier and the Local Government Minister have proposed the prospect of capping limits to annual local government rates.

However, to be logically consistent, ethical and credible to the public, the State Government also needs to apply the same proposal to annual charges.

It was reported that the Government has increased the emergency service levy by 10.6 per cent and the waste and inert waste levies were increased nearly 100 and 500 per cent respectively.

In addition, the street lighting costs are to increase 108 per cent from 2007-8 to 2017-18. The ABS CPI for the State this year is estimated at 1.2 per cent.
