Asbestos: Get your insurance coverage in writing

Charlie Gibson, FalconMandurah Coastal Times

FURTHER to my concerns regarding house and contents insurance on timber and asbestos homes, I am very close to being a 50-year member of my insurance company RAC.

I have now written two polite letters to them requesting a reply in writing that I am fully covered and not caught short like the family from South Yunderup before Christmas last year.

After patiently waiting for weeks at time of writing I have received no reply to my mail. I was so concerned that I finished up ringing the insurance department of the RAC and was told by a young office worker I was fully covered.

I have recorded the person, time and date of this phone call but it’s not as secure as a written reply.

I would suggest owners of timber frame or asbestos homes make their own inquiries with their own insurance companies for peace of mind.
