YES, Charlie, there was criticism about the new bridge near Mandurah train station (It all blends, Coastal Times January 13).
However, it is there now. Our council rates had to be spent somewhere.
But what a nuisance it was to drivers, with traffic slowed and held up, during the many months of its construction.
I was told that the reason it had to be built was that if someone was to be injured while crossing the road there, the council would be up for a huge damages claim.
Anyway, apart from it being a rest stop for pelicans, as you suggest, maybe next New Year’s Eve it can be festooned and lit up with fireworks, like Sydney Harbour Bridge.
