Seafood toxicity fears

Staff ReporterMandurah Coastal Times

It reported that prawns, fish (particularly basa) was found to have dangerous levels of bacteria, chemicals, listeria and antibiotics and posed a danger to our health.

In particular, basa that comes from the heavily polluted Mekong River in Vietnam was shown to be very toxic. Even China has banned seafood from Vietnam even though prawns and other seafood from China itself were also shown to be toxic.

I have found some restaurants selling basa as their staple fish after inquiring what type of fish they sold in their fish and chips.

I note that our leading supermarkets are also selling “Vietnam Prawns” and “Seafood from China”. Our health authorities (including Mandurah City Council health inspectors) should do some analysis of these products being sold in light of this disturbing television report.
