Very poor fare

Patricia Menhennett, MandurahMandurah Coastal Times

In the past two weeks, I have been to two Christmas functions that left much to be desired.

At the first, there was no provision for those who are vegetarians. They had to make do with a glutinous potato salad and a few green things thrown together for which they had paid $25.

The second was at a hotel where the soup was unpalatable, the ham was slimy, the overcooked turkey was swimming in God knows what and a very mediocre salad despite the fact we had pre-ordered roast vegetables. At $30 a head, it was very unsatisfactory.

In complete contrast, a dinner at Melbourne Bowling and Recreation Club was superb. A very tasty entree, a perfectly cooked steak followed by a luscious dessert and excellent service.

Congratulations to the chef, a real treasure.
