Owned by Shaun and Yvone Patience, it is their dream retirement home.

“It is only myself and my wife who live in the home. Our children have all grown up and have their own families now,” Mr Patience said.

“We were looking at setting ourselves up for retirement in a few years and what better place to retire than on the canals in Mandurah.

“We kayak in the mornings and go out on the boat, crabbing in the afternoon – fantastic lifestyle.

“I work in Wangara and Yvone works locally and it is always lovely to come home too.”

Vision One Homes designed and built the residence, scooping the honour for Best Contract Home in the $400,000-$500,000 category at this year’s Master Builders WA Housing Excellence Awards.

Award judges said they were impressed by the home’s high quality of construction and finishes.

“It was obvious this home was built with particular attention to detail,” they said.

Vision One sales and marketing manager Damien Will said it was an honour to win the award.

“It is testament to the team who work so hard to deliver a great result for clients,” he said.

“We have won eight industry awards in four years, plus numerous finalists. While we don’t build homes to win awards, it is certainly nice to be recognised by our peers.”

Shaun and Yvone said the whole build process took lead from their motivation.

“After buying a block on the canals, we wanted a home that suited the environment around it,” Mr Patience said.

“We chose this home because it is just a bit different; has a bit of a retro feel to it. We wanted single storey because I don’t want to be wasting time walking up and down stairs for a view.

“That’s why the alfresco area is long and wide and runs the entire length of the back of the home.

“Nothing was ever a problem with Vision One Homes; they were a pleasure to deal with from the girls in administration to Sam and Paul, the supervisors. I would build with them again.”

Vision One Homes is part of the Novus Homes Group, a Perth residential building company that has been established for 23 years. n
