ASHOM Monelli cruised into this weekend’s final of the Mandurah Middle Distance Challenge (647m) with a comfortable heat victory on the Peel circuit on Friday.

The David Hobby-trained chaser, which was making his debut over the journey, made it look easy as he bounced straight to the lead and then kicked away to put the race beyond doubt. Ashom Monelli rolled on to score by more than five lengths in 36.57.

It was a different story in the second heat where Courageous Nikki won by the narrowest of margins.

Courageous Nikki came from last at box rise to work her way through the field before nailing the front running Iona Carlson in the final stride to win by a nose.

Later in the evening, Dandalup Brutus snapped an eight race losing sequence when he took out the Property Plus Real Estate Grade 5 over 405m.

The young race dog from Corey White’s kennels produced an all-the-way effort to win by more than six lengths in 22.52.
