Baseball: Frederick Irwin student pitches into WA squad

The Year 9 student has also been accepted into the Emeralds Futures program, from which players are selected to represent Australia.

Caitlin is a pitcher and can hurl baseballs at about 104km/h, an impressive delivery for a 13-year-old.

She can play every position on the field, but will specialise as a middle infielder for the WA team.

Caitlin said it was a huge honour to be selected to represent WA.

“My ultimate goal is to play for Australia at a World Cup or at the Olympics,” she said.

She trains three times a week at Baseball Park in Gosnells and also plays up to four, two-hour games on weekends. During her days off, she likes to practise pitching and batting at home.
