Basketball: Magic lose nailbiter to Tigers

Jessica NicoMandurah Coastal Times

MANDURAH Magic’s men have gone down in a two-point nail-biter at home against the Willetton Tigers.

Marvin Smith’s massive 34 point effort at 86 per cent efficiently was not enough to get the team over the line as they fell agonisingly short of notching their sixth win of the season.

Shaun Stewart and Jerami Grace also performed strongly, sinking 23 and 18 points respectively.

The women were more successful, accounting for the Tigers 87-66.

Carly Boag led from the front with 23 points, supported by Taylor Brown (17) and Emma Klasztorny (14) as the team romped to a 21 point win.

After 18 rounds Mandurah’s women sit 4th on the SBL ladder while the men are 13th.

The Magic men have a double header this weekend, travelling to take on the Perth Redbacks on July 20 before hosting the Geraldton Buccaneers at the Waroona Recreation Centre from 12pm, July 21.

The women will also play Perth on July 20.
