THE best young footballers from around the country converged on Mandurah last week for a national competition.

The School Sports Australia 12 and under football competition had teams from each state and territory take to Rushton Park to vie for the 2019 title over eight days.

WA’s team of young stars finished the round robin tournament in second place with six wins, their only loss coming at the hands of Victoria in their opening game.

The team would go on to finish one better than their 4th place in 2018, winning the bronze medal after making it to the top four competition where they beat Queensland 35-9 but went down to South Australia 46-28 and Victoria 55-16.

It was the fifth time in six years WA have medalled in the competition.
