Cup hopes look promising

The Nambeelup-based Halse, who runs one of the strongest kennels in the state, qualified Sable Island, West On Dossy and Someday Lady for the trophy decider after last weekend’s heats.

Sable Island snapped a 10-race losing sequence when she rattled home from the midfield to defeat kennelmate West On Dossy by a length in 27.82.

The speedy black bitch has shown consistent form over the past couple of months without winning but she now has every opportunity for back-to-back victories after drawing the rails alley in the final.

Halse’s other finalist, Someday Lady, narrowly lost her heat to Guessed Out.

Guessed Out led all the way to clock 27.69, which was just quick enough to secure the win over a barnstorming Someday Lady by a nose.

The other heat winner was the Kylie McLennon-trained Illusive Dreama.

Illusive Dreama’s front running effort produced the fastest qualifying time of 27.67 as she beat home runner-up Texan Star by nearly two lengths.
