Gibson dominates to take under-14 title

It was the third and final event of the titles and it wrapped up in unforgettable fashion with sensational winter conditions.

Clean offshore winds, a pulsing ground swell and sunny skies prevailed as a talent-packed field of bodyboarders went all out.

After a marathon 10-hour day, a total of eight state bodyboard titles were awarded, as a team of 25 were confirmed to represent WA.

The under-16 cadet boys final was a much tighter result, with Brad Harrington (Singleton) pulling out all stops to win the hotly contest division, defeating an emerging group of WA bodyboard talent.

Harrington’s opening score of 6.83 (from a possible 10) was the highest of the final. It was the difference as he went on capture the under-16 state title by just 0.03.

‘I had a bit of a shocker in my semifinal and didn’t think I could win,’ Harrington said.

‘I’m over the moon to be the state champion and be heading to nationals next month.’
